Playing the waiting game…
Posted by Tony on September 1st, 2008 filed in Product ReviewsI realize its been a while since my last post, but I hope this one is worth the wait… Just after my last post I placed an order with favorite site of the week Twisted Monk and it took a while to get here. I ordered their sample pack of Hemp, as it appears to be the rope of choice by most bondage professionals.
Growing up my father used hemp rope in many applications ( or at least a type of rope I came to know as hemp). This stuff was rough, I mean painful, every time I was involved with this stuff, I had to wear gloves to even touch it. It was very hairy, and very stiff, did I mention it was painful to the touch… It was like grabbing a cactus with your bare hands. Thus the first time I read about Hemp rope being used in bondage, I thought it was for an added pain factor. I could not imagine putting it against skin for any sensual reasons, and it must be for hard core S&M.
The rope I received this last week from Twisted Monk is noting like this… Its soft, almost like an old cotton t-shirt. It was well packaged in a plain white rip proof envelope, with no logos or other markings that would give away its contents, or origin (except for the return address, which uses “TTM” as the return name). I received what I believe to be a sample of every color they carry, in a variety of sizes (1X4mm, 4X6mm and 2X8mm) each one labeled with its size and color. The ends of the samples were taped, which is my only nit, I wish that at least one strand was whipped like their kits and larger orders so that I could evaluate this quality as well. I guess I will just have to wait for my next order.
Hemp rope seems to be a bit expensive compared to other ropes you can purchase at your local hardware store, however the natural softness, and lack of chemicals used in manufacturing make it the perfect rope for this application.
